About Burgas Coliving

Burgas Coliving is located on the stunning Black Sea coast in Bulgaria, offering the perfect blend of productivity and relaxation with scenic beauty. The coliving is situated in the Mineral Springs of Burgas, a satellite settlement with over 2500 years of healing history, providing a unique environment where work meets natural wellness.

Origin story

Katya, an urban planner by profession and coliving manager by passion, founded Burgas Coliving after realizing her work and life in Burgas didn't allow her to travel extensively. Instead of leaving to explore the world, she decided to "invite the world to come to her" in Burgas.

The property itself carries remarkable historical significance. Since 2002, Katya and her family owned a great property located in the Mineral Springs of Burgas, one of the most ancient Bulgarian balneotherapy resorts dating back more than 2500 years. This area once thrived as Aquae Calidae and later Thermopolis, visited by patients from across the Roman and Ottoman empires who believed in the healing power of the 41.5°C mineral water.

The property was originally created during communism in 1954 near the old Roman baths, consisting of 2 buildings and about 8000 square meters of park area. Its purpose was to provide healing and salutary rest for communist workers using mineral water. During the 1990s, the property closed and began to deteriorate.

For years, the family wondered what to do with this special place. They knew it couldn't be just an ordinary guest house or hotel - this place which had been used to gather people for thousands of years, to heal them, to bring them together and make a community, had to be something different, something significant, something worthy of its history. In the beginning of 2020, they finally started making their dream come true, transforming it into the coliving space it is today.

Community philosophy

Burgas Coliving operates through its Creative Hub, an NGO dedicated to stimulating creativity and innovation, increasing knowledge of the new digital reality, building awareness of sustainable tourism, and filling the gaps between local life and digital nomadism.

The community focuses on increasing understanding of the benefits of living in a multicultural environment among young people. They bridge the gap between local life and digital nomadism by organizing educational and mentoring programs, workshops and skills exchanges, art and sports camps.

The Creative Hub plays a crucial role in creating meaningful connections between the residents of Burgas and the influx of digital nomads. Digital nomads bring fresh ideas, skills, and global perspectives that inspire and support local businesses and innovation. In return, the local community offers digital nomads a deep connection to culture, traditions, and a sense of belonging.

This exchange enriches both groups, fostering mutual growth and understanding. By encouraging interaction and collaboration, they build a stronger, more inclusive community with the mission to create a harmonious environment where diverse perspectives can thrive, leading to a vibrant and dynamic society.
