About Anceu Coliving

Anceu Coliving is a rural coliving and coworking space in Galicia, Spain focused on revitalizing Anceu village through community, nature, and local impact. Under the slogan "Think globally, act locally, revive rural," it provides a platform for remote workers to live in nature while contributing to rural revitalization through technology, arts, and creativity.

Origin story

Agustin founded Anceu Coliving after learning about Galician villages becoming abandoned and empty. He envisioned creating a rural coliving space as an economic engine to rebuild and reconstruct a village. After months of searching, he found a 3000 square meter rebuilt village in Anceu and negotiated with the owner. The project began in February 2020, but COVID delayed the opening. Using this time to prepare, he organized a soft launch in July 2020 with a contest inviting over 40 people from around the globe to test the space. After receiving feedback and making improvements, Anceu officially opened on August 1st, 2020.

Community philosophy

Anceu operates on three core principles:

  • Powered by Inspiration - building a home of talent where everyone learns from each other, shares knowledge, and helps each other grow

  • Balanced by Nature - living together in calmness and harmony, recognizing that almost nothing in life is urgent, which helps evolution while keeping life flexible

  • Based on Imperfection - embracing that they aren't perfect but do what they can with what they have, always working to improve themselves. The community believes in cooperation over competition, building long-term alliances with other colivings and creative hubs throughout Europe to help other rural areas and inspire people to create similar initiatives.

Location

Lugar Ramis 8, Anceu, 36829, Ponte Caldelas, Pontevedra, Spain

Anceu Coliving sits in the village of Anceu, in the municipality of Ponte Caldelas, in the heart of Galicia, northwest Spain. The area is known as "Green Spain" for its lush, wet climate and verdant landscapes — surrounded by forests, small mountains, and the Verdugo River. The coliving is about 30 minutes from Pontevedra, 45 minutes from Vigo, and one hour from Santiago de Compostela.

The natural setting is a defining feature of the location. Reviewers consistently describe it as peaceful and remote, with one noting it is "in the middle of nature, but still 30 minutes away from city and Atlantic Ocean," and another highlighting "peaceful surroundings, nice historical towns nearby, surrounded by small mountains and the sea only half an hour away." The area is also home to local cultural spots such as the Sol-Fa-Mi Association in Ponte Caldelas and the Albergue Jamarte in the nearby village of O Verdugo.

Galicia's rural character means the village is quiet and unhurried, with a strong sense of local identity. The region is celebrated for its Celtic heritage, fresh Atlantic seafood, and wines like Albariño. Porto, Portugal is just 1.5 hours away, making the location well-connected despite its rural feel.

Guest restrictions

  • Children not allowed

We love kids! But unfortunately, because of the work environment and the configuration of the common areas, we believe that Anceu is not very well suited for children. We recommend family-friendly accommodations nearby if traveling with kids.

  • Pets welcome

Dogs are welcome at Anceu — we call it 'dogmunity' living. Your pet becomes part of our daily rhythm. Dogs must be well-behaved and up to date on vaccinations. During the first week, organized doggy walks help create a pack. Dogs are not allowed on sofas in the cafe (dog beds provided), must be out of the cafeteria at family dinner time, and cannot play in the cafeteria to promote a calm space. See the complete dog-friendly manifesto.
