About VIU Sagrada Familia

VIU Sagrada Família is the first sustainable coliving + coworking in Spain, located in Barcelona's iconic Sagrada Família neighbourhood. This family project combines furnished apartments, coworking areas, meeting rooms, and event spaces under one roof, offering professionals an all-inclusive living and working experience. The building — designed with recycled materials, 18 photovoltaic panels, and a biodynamic passive design — holds the 3 green leaves certification from Green Building Council Spain.

Origin story

VIU was born from the desire to transform housing in Barcelona. The founders created this family project with the dream of offering a unique experience where people from all over the world could work and live together while enjoying an active, creative, and transformative lifestyle.

The project aimed to bring professionals closer to the city, making them feel at home while satisfying the latent needs of contemporary society. VIU was designed to provide clients with a community where they could bring together their social and working life in the same space — a point of union and interaction between people who move to Barcelona temporarily, mainly for professional reasons.

To realise this vision sustainably, VIU designed and built its first building in collaboration with Pich Architects, a leading architecture studio in sustainable construction, resulting in a space that actively contributes to improving the environment and the lives of the people who live and work in it.

Community philosophy

VIU is committed to creating a similar and close community not only among residents but also with the managers and the property. The space fosters an atmosphere of positivity by carefully selecting future colivers to ensure compatibility.

The community philosophy centres on encouraging connections between colivers and coworkers of all nationalities. VIU provides spaces and tools to help residents meet and connect, including community breakfasts, events, talks with guest speakers, group classes, and afterwork get-togethers.

VIU's core values are closeness, transparency, and professional ethics — the work of people who trust in their profession as an impetus for change. The space connects entrepreneurs, freelancers, and professionals from around the world, opening doors to infinite possibilities while providing all the resources needed to live, work, and share in a stable and welcoming environment.

Location

253 Lepanto Street, 08013 Barcelona, Spain

VIU is situated in the Sagrada Familia district, one of Barcelona's most iconic and well-connected neighbourhoods. Originally known as "El Poblet" — a rural area of vineyards and cereal crops — it was incorporated into Barcelona in 1897 and grew into a vibrant urban neighbourhood, taking the name Sagrada Familia in the 20th century. The area centres around Antoni Gaudí's legendary basilica and the scenic Avenida Gaudí, which leads to the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Europe's most significant modernist complex.

The neighbourhood retains a strong connection to its industrial past, with the former Damm factory (now a concert and exhibition space) and the Myrurgia factory showcasing its distinctive Art Deco facade. For quiet moments, the Montserrat Roig Gardens offer a tranquil retreat within the city, featuring a preserved beer depot at its heart.

Reviewers consistently describe the area as quiet and peaceful despite being central, with cafés, restaurants, and shops right around the corner. All main tourist sites are within a 20-minute reach, and the neighbourhood has a lively, Mediterranean feel that draws residents outdoors year-round.
