About redNERD Coliving

redNERD Coliving in Hurghada is Egypt's first coliving and coworking space, designed for remote workers, entrepreneurs, and digital nomads. Housed in a fully renovated villa at the Red Sea, it is a multicultural hub created by and for people from all over the world, offering coworking stations, community kitchens, a rooftop terrace, pool, and weekly events — all shaped by the diverse ideas and aspirations of its international community.

Origin story

Coliving Hurghada was founded in May 2023 with the vision of establishing Egypt's first coliving and coworking space in Hurghada. Renovations began on May 10, 2023, and from the very start the project was an international endeavor — built by more than 20 volunteers from around the world, each contributing their own ideas, creations, and aspirations.

Volunteers from across the globe shaped every corner of the villa: Sofia from Italy built the rooftop stairs, Denis from the UK designed the rooftop itself, Grace from New Zealand created the garden area, Nicola from Italy installed the pool's automated refilling system, and Caspar from the Netherlands helped complete the garden. Marco from Germany and Sofia returned to wire the electrical systems and build wardrobes; Dan from the UK finalized the second floor and built the community kitchen furniture; Severin and Zoe from Switzerland completed five new bathrooms; and Nelly from Sweden added the finishing touches.

On October 21, 2023 — founder Marcel's 33rd birthday — a major milestone was reached: all rooms had been built and painted from scratch, bathrooms completed, a new entrance door installed, and the kitchen marble put in place. Sharon from Australia and Nicola from Italy arrived that day to celebrate and built the remaining seven beds. Filipe from Costa Rica, Aki from Japan, Vanita from India, and Giovani from Mexico contributed mirrors, tables, pergolas, and decorative elements throughout.

This collaborative spirit — embodied in the motto "Let's create together!" — gave Coliving Hurghada its unique character, making it a space shaped by the hands and hearts of people from all over the world.

Community philosophy

redNERD Coliving is built on the belief that living and working abroad is more than just a shared living space — it is an opportunity to exchange experiences and build bonds with others. The community welcomes people who are unafraid to step outside their comfort zones and embrace the unknown.

The space is designed as a multicultural environment for creative and adventurous individuals: remote workers, entrepreneurs, digital nomads, and those aspiring to join the community lifestyle. Residents are encouraged to collaborate, share their journeys, stories, and knowledge with a vibrant mix of personalities, characters, and energies.

Weekly community events — including NERD Dinners (BBQ nights), movie and games nights, shisha and tea nights, pool parties, and networking nights — foster connection and a sense of belonging. Privacy is always respected: how much one integrates into the community is a personal choice, but the door is always open.

Location

Villa 312B, Hurghada, Red Sea Governorate, Egypt

redNERD Coliving is located in a quiet residential area of Hurghada, a city on the shores of the Red Sea in Egypt. Hurghada is distinctive in Egypt as a cosmopolitan city blending traditional Egyptian culture with an international tourism scene, offering an authentic local community beyond the typical resort bubble.

The villa sits in a largely residential neighborhood, described by guests as peaceful and calm — though somewhat removed from the city center. The immediate surroundings are sparse, with some abandoned homes nearby and stray dogs in the area. A small grocery store is within a short walk, and food delivery (via Talabat) is available. The city center with its restaurants, bars, beaches, and nightlife is a short taxi or ride-hailing ride away.

Hurghada also serves as a convenient base for wider exploration of Egypt: Cairo and the Pyramids are about 7 hours by bus, and Luxor's temples and the Valley of the Kings are around 4 hours away.
