About SunDesk Coliving

SunDesk is a coworking and coliving community located in the sunny surf village of Taghazout, Morocco. The space combines focused work with relaxation, travel & adventure, providing students, entrepreneurs, and professionals the opportunity to travel and work while maintaining productivity in a tranquil setting.

Origin story

SunDesk was founded by Magdalena, who grew up in rainy Germany with a passion for traveling to sunny destinations. Following her dreams to travel and work, she started her education in the hotel sector but found that working for a global hotel chain meant following the brand with little consideration for cultural differences. Creating the same product all over the world wasn't fulfilling for her.

In 2011, she decided to do something different. She joined an online university and started working in Taghazout. During these years, she met freelancers from all over the world having a great time in Morocco while working on their own projects. However, everyone faced the same problems: slow internet connections, finding a quiet place to work, having stable Skype calls, and a lack of social contact.

The idea for SunDesk was born with the aim of giving everyone the opportunity to travel and maintain sales while being abroad. She googled "location independent worker" and found out about a group called "Digital Nomads". From that moment, she was determined to start a space for these enterprising travelers, and with the help of many amazing friends and supporters, her dream came true.

Community philosophy

SunDesk's focus is on creating a vibrant coworking community where skills can be shared, relationships can be built, and fun can be cultivated. The space recognizes the importance of starting the day as a group, bringing everyone together on the terrace for a delicious healthy breakfast every morning.

Community building happens through three main ways: food, staff, and shared space. For every breakfast (and some days, lunch as well), all guests come and sit together, eat together and converse. The staff makes sure to make introductions and foster a sense of belonging - no one is left behind. While technology can hinder in-person interaction, guests are always found chatting between coworking sessions. When most guests leave, they know everyone on a first-name basis and have a new group of friends to travel and work with.

Location

Rue Tasga Oudrar 31, Taghazout 80022, Agadir, Morocco

SunDesk is located in Taghazout, a vibrant seaside Berber village on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, about 20 minutes north of Agadir. This former fishing village — discovered by hippies in the 1970s for its world-class surf — has grown into a lively surf and travel destination that blends authentic Moroccan culture with a relaxed, international atmosphere. The village enjoys a favourable microclimate that keeps it cooler than the rest of Morocco in summer.

SunDesk sits right in the centre of the village, with stunning ocean views from its rooftop terraces. Guests consistently describe the location as ideal: quiet at night yet lively during the day, with restaurants, a pharmacy, a weekly Tuesday souk (market), and a skate park all within easy reach on foot. The area is widely considered safe, with locals known for being friendly and welcoming to visitors.

Taghazout is also an excellent base for exploring the wider region. The medieval coastal town of Essaouira is about 2.5 hours away by car, while the laid-back beach town of Mirleft and the bustling city of Marrakech are popular weekend destinations.

Reviews: Guests consistently praise the excellent location - beach is 2-5 minutes walk, town center and restaurants are very close. Everything needed is within easy walking distance, making the area highly walkable and convenient.
  • Bus to cities
Long-distance buses to Marrakech via CTM/SupraTours (€26 round trip). Requires taxi to reach bus station in Agadir.
Destinations: Marrakech, Essaouira, and other Moroccan cities
Reviews: Guests mention organizing weekend trips to Marrakech and Essaouira. The hosts are helpful in arranging transportation and providing recommendations for these excursions.
