    About Coliving 1907

Coliving 1907 is located in a house classified as Historical Heritage of the Canary Islands and built in 1907 in the heart of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It has 8 fully equipped rooms that have been carefully renovated to preserve their original spirit while providing the best comforts for a pleasant stay.

    Origin story

Raquel Villalobos opened Coliving 1907 in November 2021 after eight months of hard work and dedication. At the age of 40, she felt her professional path needed a change and saw the opportunity to open coliving. The house belonged to her family - her great-grandfather, who was born in Cuba, had the house built in 1907. Her maternal grandparents and her mother lived there. The main floor was used for bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living rooms, while the ground floor housed her grandfather's office, who managed farms with coffee and fruit trees. The renovation was done with great care and two fundamental objectives: to maintain the essence and spirit of the house and to make it comfortable and useful for living and working.

    Community philosophy

Coliving 1907 creates a community that feels like a small family with a very familiar, calm, respectful and friendly dynamic. The focus is on making colivers feel at home from the very first moment, providing more than just a community but a family with whom residents feel comfortable from arrival. Every month different events are organized both for people living in the coliving and for nomads in the city, with many events arising spontaneously during the week. The philosophy emphasizes that while it's not necessary to be together all the time, there will always be someone available for a good time and a nice conversation. The approach centers on connecting people from different cultures, with different ways of thinking, different traditions, different ways of life and different opinions, creating an enriching environment.

    Hosts

I am the founder and CEO of Coliving 1907.

I opened the coliving in November 2021, after eight months of hard work and dedication.

I was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on 1st May 1980. I learned English and German at school. I spent many summers away from home in order to improve my language skills.

I studied Business Management and Administration in Germany, in the city of Münster. There I combined my studies with internships in important companies.

At the age of 26 I returned to Gran Canaria. This is where I began my working life. At the age of 40 I felt that my professional path needed a change. Several opportunities had arisen, but none of them were what I was looking for. And when I least expected it, what I needed came along.

In 2021 I saw the opportunity to open coliving. I analysed the situation and with the encouragement of my family I got down to work. And never better said. The most expensive part was the renovation and refurbishment of the house. This project started in April 2021. I opened the coliving in November of the same year after a lot of hard work and dedication.

Since then I have not stopped living beautiful experiences, meeting very interesting people and learning.

During the time I have been away from home I have realised that it is very important to find places where you feel at home. That is and has been one of my priorities. I welcome the colivers with open arms. My aim is to make them feel good, comfortable, safe and well treated.

In coliving I take care of almost everything; reservations, social networks, gardening, tour guide. In short, to create a welcoming home, to transmit happiness and good vibes, to make things easy for the colivers.

I feel privileged to be able to work in something that I love, that I am passionate about.

I am very happy to have had this opportunity. Meeting people every day from different cultures, with different ways of thinking, different traditions, different ways of life and different opinions is very enriching.

I am still working to create a space to live and work in. I am here to help all those people who choose Coliving 1907 as their place to enjoy Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

    Home-like Atmosphere

Several guests describe feeling at home and experiencing a family-like atmosphere. The space creates emotional connections that make guests want to return.

    Potential Issues

    Independent Atmosphere

Some guests note that residents tend to do their own thing with limited spontaneous interaction. A few explicitly state they missed the coliving experience or found it more like a flatshare than a community.

    Inconsistent Community Experience

Six reviews explicitly mention lack of community or people doing their own thing. The community experience appears to depend heavily on the specific group of residents present during each stay, creating an inconsistent experience.

    Key Points

    Host Responsiveness

Raquel is consistently described as friendly, helpful, and responsive to guest needs. She provides local recommendations and addresses practical requests quickly, creating a welcoming service environment.

    Potential Issues

    Activity Organization

Some guests mention organized activities including community pizza nights, potluck dinners, and yoga sessions. Activities are proposed in a common chat where residents can choose to participate, though the frequency and consistency varies.

    Inconsistent Event Organization

Multiple guests explicitly state there were no organized events during their stays, with some feeling the host functioned more as a landlord than a community facilitator. The level of community programming appears inconsistent across different time periods.

    Third-Party Events

One detailed review describes third-party events (painting courses, workshops) being held in the coliving without prior notice to residents, requiring them to vacate communal spaces. The guest felt these events were misleadingly promoted as coliving activities while actually disrupting the resident experience.
