The coliving fosters environments that celebrate cultural exchanges and open doors to new meetings, allowing residents to experience the city like a local while enjoying a balanced quality of life.

Origin story

SameSame was founded by a Portuguese team with a belief in the power of community. The coliving opened its doors in May of 2018 with a mission to bring together people from around the globe, offering a unique coliving experience that feels like a second home.

The founders created SameSame to spark a feeling of togetherness between people with different cultures, backgrounds and experiences by providing the environment conditions for a good life and enjoyable work. They designed the space to allow residents to immerse themselves in Portuguese culture, make surprising new connections, and enjoy a peaceful workspace.

SameSame consists of two old traditional buildings remodeled by a young Portuguese team of architects, designed to guarantee the best resting conditions for colivers. The space has been flourishing ever since its opening, expanding to include two buildings for coliving and short stays, a coworking space, and a new venue on the way.

Activities

Location

Rua da Madalena, 214, 1100-325 Lisboa, Portugal

Located in Baixa, Lisbon's historic heart — one of the most central neighborhoods in the city. In every direction, something old and alive: Cais do Sodré, Chiado, and Carmo on one side; the Cathedral (Sé de Lisboa) and the hill of Castelo de São Jorge on the other. The Tagus River is just a short walk away.

The area is characterized by its traditional Portuguese architecture, iconic tiled facades, and a lively street atmosphere with cafés, markets, restaurants, and shops right outside the door. As a prime tourist area, the neighborhood is vibrant and busy — reviewers note it is "tourist central," though hidden local gems are easy to find with a little exploration.

The two samesame buildings have different characters: the Madalena building is described by guests as notably quieter, while the Beco building is the social hub of the community. Lisbon's historic buildings carry the character of centuries of history — floors and walls may have charming imperfections typical of a genuine European capital.
