Emilie, a lifelong traveller, settled on São Miguel island in 2017 to escape from the craziness of the world. She founded Novovento — meaning "new wind" — as a place where guests could break away from their ordinary hustle and bustle, recharge, exchange ideas, and develop new projects in a paradise setting surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean.
Novovento is set in Ginetes, a small village on the west coast of São Miguel island, in the Azores archipelago — an autonomous territory of Portugal located in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. The area is defined by lush volcanic landscapes, terraced green fields, and sweeping ocean views.
The house sits in a quiet, rural setting surrounded by nature. Guests describe it as very peaceful and removed from urban hustle. Street vendors regularly pass through the area, selling fresh fish daily, meat on Fridays, and vegetables on Saturdays, adding to the rural character of the neighbourhood.
The nearest town of Ponta Delgada, the island's main city, is about 40 minutes by bus or less by car. Iconic natural landmarks such as the Sete Cidades crater lakes and the Ferraria hot spring are within easy reach, and Mosteiros beach is a short drive away.
