About Posada de la Luz

Posada de la Luz is a rural creative coliving and independent artists' residency in Torralba de Ribota, Aragón (Spain), designed for extended stays of 15 days to 6 months. Located in a restored adobe house of more than two hundred years, it welcomes writers, artists, researchers, digital nomads, and creative professionals seeking silence, nature, and a slower rhythm. The space integrates private rooms, common creative areas, a multidisciplinary exhibition hall, a workshop, underground caves, and a shared garden.

Origin story

POSADA DE LA LUZ is an idea by Juanan Requena, born from the desire to open a home where wonder, creativity, and conscious living may coexist full of resonance. The Posada emerged as a natural extension of Juanan's long exploration of the coexistence between art and life — through workshops, residencies, notebooks, and encounters woven from the small village of Torralba de Ribota, where he chose to live in order to slow down, listen, create, and look more slowly.

The house was slowly built with hands and memory, with constant help from his father and friends for more than a year, who put their heart and energy into the project. It now takes shape as a refuge where each visitor may recognize themselves.

Over time, Juanan understood that for creative coexistence to be real, the space had to be conceived as a system: intentional architecture, careful infrastructure, sufficient time, and an authentic rural environment that does not isolate, but connects. This framework — understood today as the POSADA DE LA LUZ model — integrates rural creative coliving and independent artistic residency at human scale in Aragón, as a house with soul capable of accompanying creative processes without haste and with depth.

Community philosophy

At the Posada, the guiding conviction is that living together is a greater art. Each stay, each conversation, and each shared silence is a page from the same book. The community is neither imposed nor structured through mandatory dynamics — it arises naturally from the convergence of individuals who value silence, creation, and care for their surroundings.

Residents share not only spaces but also time. Each person brings their own energy, silence, and way of seeing. The space is guided by respect, simplicity, and curiosity, with no rigid rules — only one intention: that each stay be a human and luminous experience.

The project draws inspiration from the economy for the common good, cooperation, and authenticity. Each resident contributes not only financially, but also through presence and care. The house is not conceived as a product, but as a shared space that requires commitment and respect.

Many residents collaborate with one another, organise small gatherings, or share their creative processes. The kitchen, the garden, the workshop, the terrace, and the breakfast table are described as temples for dialogue and mutual care — because, as the Posada puts it, beauty is not in things, but in the way we look at them.

Temporality is an essential part of the project: each stay leaves a subtle imprint while gently transforming the place, so the community renews itself without losing coherence.

Activities

Location

C/ Juan Carlos I, 4, 50311 Torralba de Ribota, Zaragoza, Spain

Posada de la Luz is set in the tiny village of Torralba de Ribota, a quiet rural settlement in the province of Zaragoza, in the heart of Aragón. The village is characterised by its desert-like, dry landscape with a unique beauty: sparse demographics, abundant sunshine, and minimal rainfall. The nearest town, Calatayud, lies just 12 km away and serves as the main hub for services. The posada sits along the N-234 road, which connects the Cantabrian with the Mediterranean coast.

The village itself is small and tranquil: there is no supermarket, ATM, or hairdresser — only a bar near the town hall that doubles as a local meeting point. Visiting travelling vans bring bread, fruit, and vegetables on specific days of the week. Guests consistently describe the surroundings as deeply peaceful and quiet, with an inspiring landscape full of old cart tracks, hidden paths, vast plains, and very little light pollution.

The broader area is rich in heritage: the Mudéjar church of San Félix stands within the village itself, while nearby Calatayud offers Roman ruins, medieval architecture, and wine routes. The Monasterio de Piedra (a natural park with waterfalls) is just 20–25 minutes away, and the Moncayo Nature Park, thermal spas, and medieval towns such as Daroca and Sigüenza are all within an hour's drive.

Getting around

  • Not walkable
Only a bar near the town hall within the village; no supermarket, ATM, or pharmacy on-site.
