Purpose-driven professionals seeking personal transformation, regenerative living values, and deep nature immersion in a historic rural English watermill during the winter season.
A restored historic watermill completely encircled by a river and mill leat, with oak timber interiors and the constant ambient sound of flowing water creating a distinctly grounding, almost spiritual atmosphere that guests repeatedly describe as magical.
Extensive grounds with woodland, meadows, hidden garden corners, and water features in rural Devon that guests specifically cite as the antidote to city life and a reason for feeling deeply restored during winter coliving stays.
The coliving attracts changemakers, sustainability advocates, and regenerative leadership practitioners, creating a purpose-driven peer cohort focused on transformation and systemic change rather than typical professional networking.
An outdoor sauna paired with a cold plunge, embedded in the natural setting, that guests specifically highlight as a memorable and restorative daily ritual during their stay.

Life at Selgars is a coliving in the Devon countryside at Selgars Mill Estate, running from mid-October to end of April each year. With 15 beds across private rooms, cottages, and an annex, it offers flexible stays from 2 weeks to 6 months. Residents share meals, thoughts, challenges, ideas, skills, and memories — with access to co-working spaces, a spa area with sauna and cold dip, a barn gym, and beautiful walks across Devon.
Life at Selgars was inspired by Anton Chernikov's time at K9 Coliving in Stockholm. When he signed a lease for Selgars Mill Estate in Devon, he saw the opportunity to bring that coliving experience to the English countryside.
The doors opened on 29th December 2022 — just three days before the first guests arrived. From that point, the team has been continuously improving how they do things: for the guests, for themselves, for the venue, and for the environment around them. Now in its fourth season, Life at Selgars has grown into a place to recharge, reset, and experience living in a fun and caring community.
Life at Selgars is described as "an experiment in living together as a community in nature." It is not a hotel, hostel, or Airbnb — residents share more than just a roof: meals, thoughts, challenges, ideas, skills, and memories.
There is no Community Manager. Residents are welcomed and shown around, and there are some guidelines and ground rules, but everything else is in their hands. The community is seen as a canvas and a panel of open-minded people ready to cheer each other on.
High turnover is considered harmful to the sense of community, so a minimum stay of 2 weeks is required, with a maximum of 4 months. Shared dinners every evening are strongly encouraged, along with a simple weekly rota. The community is primarily vegetarian and minimises alcohol consumption, viewing these choices as having a positive impact on health and the environment.
Activities emerge organically from whoever is in the house — movie nights, book clubs, accountability clubs, game nights, yoga, morning walks, language courses, and more. Regular fixtures include Curiosity Thursdays, Wednesday Wiggles (dance in the barn), Green Gym (work on the land), and shared cooking. Patience, open-mindedness, and playfulness are considered great tools for an exciting experience.
Selgars Mill is a retired watermill set in the Culm Valley of Mid Devon, completely surrounded by the mill leat and river. The constant sound of flowing water both inside and outside creates a naturally peaceful atmosphere. The estate features oak-timbered interiors, extensive grounds with woodlands, lawns, and an edible garden.
The property sits in a tranquil rural setting — guests consistently describe it as a "peaceful retreat" and a place to "forget the stress of the city." It is immersed in the English countryside, with beautiful surrounding nature including forests, streams, and fields typical of Devon. The nearby Bridwell Park and its Orangery Café (a 20-minute walk away) are popular local highlights.
The closest town is Tiverton, approximately 4–5 miles away. The area is deeply rural, requiring a bike or car for most errands, though the serene natural environment and the sense of being truly "in nature" are core features of the location.
