Nomadico's guiding principle is to build community with people, not for people. Core values are local impact, sustainability, and adventure.
The Puerto Escondido home attracts creative, easygoing people who find balance between focus and slow living. Days unfold naturally — guided by an on-site community manager and co-created with guests — from local coffee and beach walks to surf sessions, deep work, and shared meals cooked by local señoras. Community events include surf sessions, yoga, and taco nights, with weekend getaways to Mazunte or Zipolite.
Nomadico teams up with local partners and businesses to ensure each space has genuine local character, making meaningful connections and shared adventures central to the experience.
Nomadico was founded in October 2022 when Bill Rutten fell in love with Madeira at a local guesthouse. It had everything — except a community of nomads. So he built one.
The concept: team up with local businesses, often outside of peak season, to turn underutilized spaces into vibrant colivings. Together, Nomadico ensures all the coliving essentials are covered — space design, community, and adventures — so local partners can join the network and start welcoming digital nomads.
The Puerto Escondido home is rooted in exactly this spirit. Julio and Marlen, whose family roots run deep in the area (his grandparents were among the first to settle there), opened their home to the Nomadico network, bringing an authentic local touch to the experience.
Nomadico Puerto Escondido sits in the Centro/Rinconada area of Puerto Escondido — a quieter, more residential part of town, close to some of the best beaches for snorkeling such as Carrizalillo and Coral. The surrounding streets have a peaceful, local feel with cafés, restaurants, minimarkets, and fruit stalls just around the corner. A larger supermarket is about 500 meters away.
The coliving is ideally placed between different parts of town: downtown (Centro) is a short walk away for errands and the local mercado, while La Punta (bars, hip eats, and nightlife) and Zicatela (a long beach with surf culture) are about 10 minutes away by scooter or taxi. The Playa Bacocho area for quiet beach walks and Playa Carrizalillo for beginner surf are also nearby.
Guests consistently describe the neighborhood as quiet and local — tucked away enough from the tourist bustle while remaining walkable to restaurants, cafés, beaches, and daily essentials. As one guest noted: "Close enough to the action, far enough to still hear the birds." The wider region of Oaxaca offers day trip opportunities to Mazunte, Zipolite, and Chacahua.
