Community

The community is meant to be creative, welcoming and local. Plans come together around Peruvian food, art, music and whatever sounds good that day, then stretch into dinners, sunset walks or one more stop on the way home. The Nomadico community manager lives on-site and organises dinners, hikes and spontaneous salsa nights. Trips go further afield too, such as snorkelling with sea lions at the Palomino Islands or a weekend camping in Marcahuasi.

Local hosts Vercy and Mary run the opening event "Stories & Flavors of Barranco". Guests visit a nearby market to pick ingredients, join an informal cooking class and share dinner while hearing how the house came to life. Guests also celebrate Lima's anniversary on January 18 with the city.

How it started

Carmen has called Barranco home since 2011. She now teams up with Nomadico so guests can experience the neighbourhood she loves, with its history, architecture, old bars and the ocean nearby. In her words, she wants guests "to feel like they've found a home here, not just a place to stay."

Location

VX6H+3H5, Jr. Tumbes, Barranco 15063, Peru

The house is in Barranco, Lima's old bohemian district, known for colourful streets, historic houses, art murals and galleries. It sits next to Miraflores, the busier and more modern neighbourhood, in a city of around 10 million people on the Pacific coast.

Cafés, gyms, supermarkets, local markets and restaurants are close by, and cliff viewpoints and the beach are nearby. A local art market runs Thursday to Sunday, and the summer brings live music, outdoor events and open-air films. Summer runs December to April, with daytime temperatures around 24–28°C.

Barranco is generally safe day to day. The east side of the district, past Bolognesi Avenue, calls for more care after dark.
