About Casa Pardal Coliving

Casa Pardal is a rural coliving and coworking space set in a restored stone farmhouse in Catalonia's Anoia region, just one hour from Barcelona. Designed for remote workers, freelancers, creatives, and artists, it offers a slower, more intentional way to live and work — sharing meals, growing vegetables, collecting eggs from chickens, and baking homemade bread, all surrounded by fields and mountain views.

Origin story

Casa Pardal sits within a fortified hamlet called La Fortesa, whose history dates back to 1282. Nearly a hundred people once called this place home, working the surrounding fields, harvesting wheat and corn, and producing wine in their cellars. Over generations, that communal way of life gradually faded.

Monica, from Catalonia, and James, from France, came together with one shared vision: to create a life that feels aligned, grounded, and inspired by community. Casa Pardal grew from that dream — an eco-friendly space where stories are shared, ideas flow easily, and nature reminds people to slow down and connect. They see a deep connection between these old villages and their dream of a shared, intentional way of living, hoping to carry forward the spirit of community that has always lived here.

Community philosophy

Casa Pardal goes beyond shared desks and bedrooms — it is built on shared values: sustainability, collaboration, and simple living. The community is small by design, between 4 and 12 people at a time, which allows connections to flow naturally.

Everyone brings something unique to the table — from yoga and cooking to art or woodworking. Three shared meals per week bring people together around food, recipes, and stories from different cultures. Cooking is always optional, with no pressure to participate.

The community is not forced — it unfolds naturally. Some nights the house is alive with music and shared meals; other times it's quiet, with people reading, meditating, or resting by the fireplace. Belonging doesn't require performance. It just requires presence.

The project is fluid and shaped by the people who pass through — residents build benches, create compost systems, lead yoga sessions, or start rituals that become part of the coliving. This is not just a space — it's a collaboration.

Location

Cami de la Fortesa, Anoia, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain

Casa Pardal is set in La Fortesa, a historic fortified hamlet in the Anoia region of Catalonia, about an hour from Barcelona. The village dates back to 1282 and features preserved 17th–19th century stone architecture — wells, arcades, covered walkways, and weathered stone walls. The house sits amid open wheat fields with mountain views and is surrounded by a landscape described by guests as "Hockney-esque."

The Anoia region is a lesser-known corner of Catalonia known for its peaceful hills, medieval castles, and small but vibrant local communities. The nearest town, Calaf, is a short distance away and hosts a popular Saturday farmers' market. The area is dotted with charming medieval villages, local wineries, and natural landmarks including Montserrat (about 30 minutes away) and Boixadors Castle.

Guests consistently describe the setting as quiet, remote, and peaceful — ideal for disconnecting from city life. One reviewer noted it is "somewhat remote," and another mentioned that depending on the wind, there can be smells from a nearby pig farm, though this is less noticeable in summer when crops are in the fields.

  • Not walkable
Very few essentials within a short walk. Calaf, the nearest town with full services, is about 30 minutes on foot.
Reviews: Guests love walking and hiking through the surrounding countryside, fields, and nearby villages for leisure. For practical needs like groceries or restaurants, walking isn't realistic and a car or bike is strongly recommended.

Destinations: Montserrat (30 minutes), Boixadors Castle, local wineries, Copons waterfalls, Camarasa climbing area (1 hour), coastal beaches including Waikiki beach, and Pyrenees trails.
Reviews: Several guests explicitly recommend arriving with a car, describing the location as remote. Supermarkets and restaurants are roughly a 10-minute drive away, making a car the most convenient option for daily errands and wider day trips.
